Late last year, The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh took aim at an unexpected target: the Bachman’s warbler. The little yellow songbird is now widely considered extinct, a casualty of changing environmental conditions. Walsh was unimpressed by the hypocrisy of activists who care more about birds than human beings and want to thin the human herd while protecting other species. It’s a fair point to make—the death of a single human being created in the image of God is more tragic than the death of the last member of an animal species, because a person has an immortal soul.
I find it funny that we have come up with the word "conservationist" to describe advocates of environmental protection for endangered species. There are so many "conservatives" who don't even know what they're trying to conserve: money? values? humanity? How about conserving nature? That conservatives and conservationists end up on either ends of the political spectrum is strange linguistically.
Beautifully written. This is exactly my biggest problem with Walsh and I believe it shows that he has either not thought through on his positions or he is being deliberately brash. The utilitarian/materialistic aspect of 'conservatisms' is so fundamentally at odds with the rest of it's ideas. Fortunately, I think we are seeing a massive influx of people who do see how it all goes together.
