On today’s episode, we are joined by Dr. John Cuddeback, a professor of philosophy at Christendom College, where he has taught for twenty-five years. He also writes at life-craft.org on many of the same themes that we cover here at Utopian Idiots, and has published a book on friendship.
Today’s conversation is all about Wendell Berry, easily one of America’s greatest living writers. Dr. Cuddeback is a long-time reader of Berry, and in 2012 published an academic article in Nova et Vetera on some of his main ideas. He has also met Berry, and been engaged in a long-term correspondence with him through snail-mail (the only kind of mail that Berry receives, given that he has never owned a computer).
Dr. Cuddeback shares his expertise about all things Wendell Berry with us, providing an introduction to and rich reflections on some of his key works and ideas.
As a final note, Jonathon and I have been devouring Berry’s fiction over the past few months, and can’t speak highly enough about his novels and short stories. This will not be the last time we discuss Berry. But for now, please enjoy this delightful 50 minute conversation with Dr. Cuddeback.
